Horn

The horn is a natural material

The horn is a keratin raw material, derived from the horn, nails or hooves, by-products of mammals.

It is used to make various objects, most often for accessories, especially in textiles: buttons.

The horn can be softened by soaking in boiling water and going to press for flat shelves that can be engraved or cut.

It can be engraved, polished, bevelled and coloured in black thanks to handcrafted methods, meticulous and sometimes long.

The work of the horn is a historical specialty of the Franche-Comté, the city of Oyonnax in the Rhône-Alpes, or the Land of Olmes in Ariège (including the manufacture of horn combs). It is also a speciality of the table maker.
